The Procreate clone tool - how to clone in Procreate
Share
Did you know that you can clone parts of your drawings on Procreate? You can, and I’m going to show you how.
First, go to adjustments. It looks like a wand. At the bottom of the adjustments menu, you’ll see the clone button. Click this button to turn clone on. When clone turns on, a disc will appear.
Put this disc over the spot that you want to clone. When you drag the disc, make sure you’re on it and not touching the canvas.
Once you’re ready to clone, paint on the canvas where you would like the clone to be. Whatever is on the layer has the potential to be cloned. As you move around painting, you’ll notice that the disc moves around also. This is because as you move around painting, the area that you’re cloning changes with it. This allows you to create a complete picture, instead of just the tiny bit that is inside of the disc.
Here are a few more tips before I end this blog post: Tip 1: Don’t take your finger or Apple Pencil off of the screen until you’ve finished painting the clone. Otherwise, the picture won’t line up. Tip 2: When cloning, you can only clone the things that are on your current layer. Tip 3: The disc size is always the same. Therefore, if you zoom out on the canvas, the disc will take up more of the canvas, but still be the same size. If you zoom in, the disc will take up less of the canvas. The disc doesn’t grow or shrink, even if it looks like it does. Tip 4: Change the opacity, size or brush when cloning to add special effects. Tip 5: If you don’t like the disc moving around, hold the disc down until it bobs and a notification appears under the tool bar that says ‘Clone lock’. Hold the disc until it bobs to unlock it.
