How to unstack in Procreate - unstack a Procreate stack
Share
In this blog post, I’ll show you how to unstack artwork in Procreate.
Unstacking a Procreate stack isn’t straight-forward; there is no unstack button. To unstack a Procreate stack, you have to take all of the drawings out of the stack; then the empty stack will either automatically delete itself or you can delete it.
How do you move the drawings out of the stack? There are two ways that I’ll show you.
The first way works best if you only have a few drawings in the stack.
We’ll start inside the stack.
Hold a finger down on one of the drawings until it does something like a bounce. Then, move the drawing over slightly until the original place it was has darkened; this will make the drawing look like it has a shadow.
With the other hand, tap ‘Stack’. This will bring you to the gallery.
Then, drag the drawing to anywhere in the gallery you would like it to be. Simply let go of the drawing to save it to that spot.
Before you let go of the drawing, make sure none of the surrounding drawings are blue. If a surrounding drawing is blue, it is because the drawing you just took out of the stack is touching this drawing. If you let go of the drawing while the surrounding drawing is blue, that drawing will create a stack with the blue drawing.
Once you’ve moved the drawings out of the stack, the stack should automatically delete. If it doesn’t delete, click ‘Select’, select the stack, and click ‘Delete’.
The second way is helpful if you have a lot of drawings in the stack and want to get them out of the stack as quickly and efficiently as possible.
As before, we’ll start inside the stack.
Click ‘Select’, which is in the top, right corner.
After you click ‘Select’, bubbles will appear next to each drawing in the stack. Tap each bubble to select the drawing. To quickly select drawings, tap on a bubble, but don’t lift your finger off of the screen. Then, slide your finger across the other bubbles to quickly select the drawings.
Once you’ve selected all of the drawings, choose a random drawing. Then, hold a finger down on one of the drawings until it does something like a bounce; don’t take your finger off the screen. Then, move the drawing over slightly. All of the other drawings will suddenly pile on top of it, making the places where the drawings were darken. A little, blue bubble in the corner of this pile will tell you how many drawings are in the pile.
With the other hand, tap ‘Stack’. This will bring you out to the gallery.
Then, drag the drawings to anywhere in the gallery you would like them to be. Simply let go of the drawings to save them all to that spot.

If a surrounding drawing is blue, it is because the drawings you just took out of the stack are touching this drawing.
