How to Move Layers in Procreate

In this blog, I’m going to tell you how to move layers in procreate. First, I want to tell you why you would move a layer.

Being able to move a layer in procreate is super important! It changes the composition of your drawing, which then allows some things to be seen or not seen. The order of your layers effects what layer’s contents is to be in front on your drawing. The highest layer’s contents is always in front on your drawing and the lowest layer’s contents is always behind all of the other layers’ contents. Therefore, moving a layer in front of another is a big deal!

These two pictures explain why the order of layers is so important.

Here’s how you move layers in procreate: Hold your finger on the layer you wish to move for a few seconds. The layer will bob after about 2-3 seconds. Then, without letting go of the layer, move your finger with the layer up or down to the spot where you want the layer to be. When the layer is there, simply let go of it and it’s done. You will probably see your drawing’s composition change when the layer is let go. If you don’t like how the layers are composed, simply click ‘undo’ or move your layer again.
