Can you paint a pillowcase?

Can you paint a pillowcase?

Can you paint a pillowcase? In short, yes, you can, but you need to have the right materials, or it will all fall apart.

What you will need:

- Fabric Paint NOT ACYRLIC - I used Tulips Slick, Dimensional Fabric Paint Buy here:

https://www.amazon.com/Tulip-Rainbow-Dimensional-Paint-Collection/dp/B08LFY21PM/ref=sr_1_22?crid=KABGLNDVGOML&dchild=1&keywords=tulip+slick+fabric+paint&qid=1630769514&s=arts-crafts&sprefix=Tulip+slic%2Carts-crafts%2C228&sr=1-22

- Soft, paintbrushes (if you don’t want your painting to be dimensional)

- Pencil for drawing design/layout

- A piece of cardboard to slip inside the pillowcase when painting

- Tape to hold back the folds of the pillowcase

- A pillowcase, of course (Typically a lone one, without a match)

What you have to keep in mind is this fabric paint is PERMANENT, meaning you can wash it and it won’t come off. It will stick to the pillow like a fly in a web. Before you do ANYTHING to your pillowcase, wash and dry it. This will make sure there’s no dust or stains in your pillowcase that will ruin or mishapen your painting. Before you paint on it, slip a piece of cardboard into the pillowcase in the area you wish to paint. Then, in the back of the pillowcase, tape the folds back. Now, draw your design or basic layout on the pillowcase. When you’re sure of your drawing, go ahead and paint the pillowcase.

Now you may start painting. Keep in mind, whatever you paint on your pillowcase you can’t wash off. You can use soft paint brushes to fan out the paint, or simply squeeze from the bottle if you do want it to be dimensional.

When you’re done painting your design, wait about 72 hours before you wash it. You only have to wait 4 hours though for it to be dry enough to use, which is more like 1/2 - 1 hour if you don’t make it dimensional. You don’t have to protect this painting with anything - once you’ve painted it with fabric paint, you’re ready to go!
