The Eyedropper Tool in Procreate - All That You Need to Know About This Tool
Share
The eyedropper tool in Procreate allows you to pick a color straight out of your artwork. Why is that helpful? It’s hard to keep track of all of the colors you’ve used in your artwork. It’s often I find that I need a color I already used, but I don’t know exactly what color it is. I can use the eyedropper to pick that color out of my artwork so that I’m always using the exact color I already used. Another way that the eyedropper is helpful is if you’ve blended colors in your artwork. Often times I’ll blend different shades of a color together, creating a new shade. If I want to use that shade, all I have to do is select it with the eyedropper.
So how do you invoke the eyedropper tool to use it? Interestingly, you get to decide how to invoke it. Here’s what I mean: You can change the settings for how to invoke the eyedropper tool. How do you do that? Go to Actions (looks like a wrench on the left side of the screen), then to Prefs and tap “Gesture Controls”. Go to the Eyedropper section. This is where you can choose how you will invoke the Eyedropper. By toggling on any one or more of these options, you are defining what will invoke the eyedropper.
Many of the options have a box. What is this box? It’s called the modify box. If you click “Done” to exit the Eyedropper settings, you will see a sidebar most likely on the left side of your screen. You’ll see a little box on this side bar; this is the modify box.
There are multiple options to choose from to decide how you will use the modify box to invoke the eyedropper. For example, one option allows you to invoke the eyedropper by tapping the modify box, and another has you holding the modify box.
So depending on what options you turn on, that’s how you invoke the eyedropper. After you’ve invoked the eyedropper, how do you use it?
Put your finger on the eyedropper and drag it over to the desired color on your artwork. Pick your finger up off the screen to change to that color. It’s that simple.
Below is a picture of the eyedropper. The bottom half of the eyedropper will shows your active color, while the top half shows you the new color.
That’s everything you should know about Procreate’s eyedropper tool!
