How to Repeat a Pattern in Procreate

How to Repeat a Pattern in Procreate

In this blog post, let me teach you how to repeat a pattern in Procreate.

When you want to make a pattern in Procreate, the main thing is to repeat it. My method is to simply copy the pattern and duplicate it until I’ve created a repeating pattern. Let me teach you how I do this — right now.

Before we get into this, know that if you’re new to Procreate, you may not know how to do some of the things mentioned in this blog post.

The first thing I do is change the background color to the desired color (do this on layers). If I’m making a background of blended colors, I create a new layer, add the colors, and blur them together. If you don’t know how to blur colors together, read this blog post

Next, I create the pattern I’ll be repeating (make sure you’re on a separate layer before beginning this step). For example, I want to make a pattern of repeating flowers (all of the flowers will be exactly the same). All I have to do is draw that flower.

Now, we need to repeat the pattern. To do this, I start by duplicating the layer.

Now, I hit transform. Make sure that the magnetics and snapping are toggled on in the ‘Snapping’ section of ‘Transform’.

Next, I move the flower into the pattern’s position, which happens to be right below the other flower. Magnetics and snapping will help the two flowers stay aligned.

Now, I combine the two layers together.

Then I duplicate the new layer and use transform to move those flowers. I keep doing this until I have a row of flowers. Then, I combine those layers.

Now, I’m going to duplicate the new layer and move it to the side of the other flowers. I keep doing this until the area is completely covered by flowers in that pattern.

This may sound complicated, but once you start doing it, it’ll make more sense; once you start doing it, it will be easy.
