How to Make Hair on Procreate

Learn how to make hair in Procreate by reading this quick and easy post!

Making hair on Procreate is easy enough - if you have the right brushes. The right kind of brushes is the only thing you need to create hair in Procreate. Procreate has three brushes to create hair in the “Materials” brush set. However, I’ve found these aren’t the best brushes. That’s why I’ve created a hair brush set, which you can check out below.

If you have good hair brushes, the actual creating of the hair is easy; simply use the desired brush to draw the hair the way you want it. (If you want wavy hair, draw the hair in a wavy motion. If you want straight hair, draw it straight. It’s that simple.) However, you need to arrange the layers of your hair a certain way so that your drawing doesn’t look like the one below, and so that you can erase parts of the hair you don’t like without erasing the face.

Here’s what you need to do to avoid this: Before you add the hair, you should already have drawn a face. Below the face, you’ll want to add a new layer. On this layer you’ll draw the hair that will be behind the head, neck, and ear (if there is hair there). Above the face, add a new layer. On this layer, add the hair that will be in front of the face, neck, and ears. Then add a new layer above this one. On this layer, add the hair highlights, strands, and anything that needs to be visible on the top of everything.

If you do this, your drawing should look more like this:
